So, yesterday, I set out to organize this all-star volleyball game. It was the second time we were doing this for the high school boys in Northern California, and I was pumped!

First things first, I had to figure out the venue. I thought about a few places, and then it hit me – the Gainbridge Fieldhouse! I mean, that’s where the NBA All-Star game was, and it’s home to the Pacers and the Fever. It seemed like the perfect spot.
Next up, the equipment. I got my hands on the official Molten Flistatec volleyballs. Gotta have the real deal, right? I made sure to grab enough for all divisions, no skimping there.
Then came the fun part – picking the teams! I wanted to have up to 15 athletes on each roster, and a crew of 5 staff members. That included 1 coach, a couple of assistant coaches, and a team representative to keep things in order. I spent a good chunk of the day reaching out to schools and coaches, trying to get the best of the best. It felt like I was drafting for a pro team!
Game Rules
- Match Format: Best of three games wins.
- Non-Deciding Game: First team to 25 points with a minimum two-point advantage wins. No scoring cap, so it could get intense!
- Deciding Game (if needed): First team to 15 points with a minimum two-point advantage wins. Again, no cap, so these games could go on.
The basic idea was simple: each team tries to score by sending the ball over the net and making it hit the ground on the other side. The game starts with a serve, and then it’s all about keeping that ball in the air and outsmarting the other team. I remember watching some old Olympic volleyball matches from way back in ’64 to brush up on the rules. It is a sport with a history, after all.
I also wanted to make sure we had a good mix of skills. I figured we’d need players who could set, spike, and do all that good stuff. I even saw this mention of some players from Montgomery Academy, like Addi Vinson – maybe I should give them a shout, I thought.
At the end of the day, it was a lot of work, but it was also super exciting. I mean, bringing together the top high school volleyball players in one place? It’s gonna be epic! I can’t wait to see these guys in action. It’s gonna be a blast, no doubt.
