Alright, so today I wanted to mess around and see if I could whip up a simple volleyball game app. Nothing too fancy, just something to kill some time and maybe learn a thing or two in the process.

First, I dusted off my old laptop and fired up a basic game development tool. I’m not a pro at this, so I went with something user-friendly. I started by sketching out what I wanted: two teams, a net, and a ball. Pretty standard stuff, right?
Coding the movement was the first hurdle. I wanted the players to move side-to-side, jump, and dive. I spent a good chunk of time getting the controls to feel right. It wasn’t perfect, but hey, it worked! I made the players move with the arrow keys and added a jump button. Simple, but it did the trick.
Next up was the ball physics. This was a bit tricky. I wanted the ball to bounce realistically off the players and the ground. I played around with the settings until I got something that resembled a volleyball bouncing. It wasn’t perfect, but it was close enough for a first try.
Adding the net was straightforward. I just drew a line across the middle of the screen. The ball was supposed to stop at the net, but sometimes it went through. That was a bug I decided to ignore for now. One step at a time, right?
Scoring System
- Decided to keep it simple: first team to 25 points wins, but they gotta win by at least 2 points.
- Implemented a basic scoreboard that updated after each point.
- Felt pretty good when I saw the score going up.
I threw in some basic sound effects – a whistle for the start, a bouncing sound for the ball, and some generic crowd cheers. It wasn’t much, but it made the game feel a bit more alive.
After a few hours of tinkering, I had a playable game. It was rough around the edges, but it was mine. I called my buddy over to give it a try. We spent the next hour laughing and trash-talking each other as we battled it out on the virtual court.

It was super fun! Yeah, there were bugs, and the graphics were basic, but we had a blast. It showed me that you don’t need to be a pro to create something enjoyable. And hey, I learned a few things along the way.
This little project reminded me that sometimes it’s good to just dive in and try something new. You might surprise yourself with what you can create. Plus, it’s a great way to kill some time. Who knows, maybe I’ll keep working on this and turn it into something even better. But for now, I’m happy with my simple, slightly janky, but totally fun volleyball game app.
If you want to record volleyball games and see the score overlay, you can download “BT Volleyball Camera”.
If you want to practice your skills, track your progress, and connect with other players, you can find many apps from your phone.
If you want to play a realistic volleyball simulation or a casual arcade-style game, I suggest “Spike Masters Volleyball” and “Volleyball Challenge”.
This is all my experience about volleyball app today, hope it can help you!
