Okay, so, I’m going to talk about my little project of tracking the Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Washington Wizards games. I’m a huge basketball fan, and I’ve always been curious about how these two teams stack up against each other. I’m not a data scientist or anything, I just wanted to see their history in an organized way.

First, I needed to find all their games. I started by just searching around, and I found a few sites that listed some of their matchups. I used those as a starting point, and then I started digging deeper, trying to find every single game they’ve played against each other, both regular season and playoffs.
It was a bit of a pain, to be honest. Some of the information was incomplete, some was contradictory, and I had to cross-reference a bunch of different sources to make sure I was getting it right. I spent hours just trying to figure out one game’s results sometimes, felt like a real detective. I wrote down every game, date, and score.
Next, I wanted to organize this mess of information. So I made a simple spreadsheet. I listed each game, the date it was played, who won, and the final score. I even added a column to keep track of the total wins for each team over time. It was pretty basic, but it did the job.
I also wanted to see some trends, like which team was winning more often in recent years. So, I started playing around with the data. I made some simple charts to show the win percentages for each team over different periods, like the last 5 years, the last 10 years, and so on. It was really interesting to see how the balance of power shifted between the teams over time.
- First Step: Searching for data.
- Second Step: Confirming the info.
- Third Step: Organizing it into a spreadsheet.
- Fourth Step: Making some charts.
I learned a lot from doing this project. Not just about the Cavaliers and Wizards, but also about how to find, organize, and present data. It was a lot of work, but I’m really happy with how it turned out. I’m still adding new games to my spreadsheet as they happen. It’s kind of like my own little basketball history project.
By the way, did you know that the Cavaliers had their worst record since 2002-03 in one season? That was the first season without LeBron James, crazy right? And that their team name, “Cavaliers,” came from a competition? I thought that was a cool little fun fact I stumbled upon while looking into their history.

Anyway, this whole thing started when the Cavaliers were playing the Wizards on December 14th. I got curious, and now here I am, with a whole spreadsheet and everything! I am keeping track of it till now!
It’s not perfect, but it’s mine, and I think it’s pretty cool. Maybe one day I’ll turn it into something more, but for now, it’s just a fun little side project that I enjoy working on.
