So, today I want to share a little game I made called the “Crab Volleyball Game.” It all started when I saw some folks playing volleyball online, and I thought, “Hey, why not make a fun little version with crabs?”

First, I got the idea to use crabs because, well, they’re funny, and who doesn’t love a good beach-themed game, right? I grabbed my laptop and started thinking about how to make this work. The first thing I did was set up a basic playing area. Since this is a crab game, I imagined a sandy beach scene. I drew up a simple net using two poles, you know, like the ones you see in real volleyball games.
Next, I had to figure out the rules. I decided to keep it simple: regular volleyball rules but with a twist. Everyone plays as a crab, and you move sideways, just like a real crab. I thought this would make the game more interesting and hilarious. For moving the crabs, I used the arrow keys on the keyboard. It felt natural, like you’re scuttling across the sand. Left arrow to move left, right arrow to move right – easy peasy.
The ball in this game is a balloon. Why a balloon? Because it floats a bit, giving players a bit more time to react. I programmed the balloon to bounce off the sand and the net. Oh, and if a crab touches the balloon, it should bounce back, of course. I wanted to make sure players couldn’t just hold the balloon, so I set it up so you can only hit it once at a time, just like in real volleyball. But there’s an exception: if you block the balloon at the net, you can hit it again right after. It’s a small thing, but it makes the game more dynamic.
I also decided that each team gets a maximum of three hits to get the balloon over the net. This keeps the game moving and adds a bit of strategy. And here’s a fun rule: no open-handed tips! You have to use a closed fist to tip the balloon. I thought this would make things a bit more challenging and fun.
After setting up the rules and the basic gameplay, I tested it out. It was so much fun watching the little crabs scuttle around, trying to hit the balloon. I played a few rounds with my buddy, and we couldn’t stop laughing. It’s such a silly but engaging game.
Finally, I added a scoring system. Each time a team fails to return the balloon, the other team scores a point. Simple, right? The first team to reach a certain number of points wins the game. I wanted to keep it casual, so I didn’t add any complicated features.

So, that’s how I made my “Crab Volleyball Game.” It was a fun little project, and I really enjoyed the whole process. If you’re looking for a simple, fun game to play, give it a try. It’s a blast!
