Okay, so, I’ve always been a huge hockey fan, right? And every year, me and my buddies get super into fantasy hockey. It’s like, our thing. But this year, I decided I wanted to really nail it with the team name. You know, something that’s not just your average “Puckheads” or whatever. Something that would get a good chuckle every time someone saw it.
So, I started brainstorming. I grabbed a pen and a pad of paper and just started jotting down anything that came to mind. Hockey terms, player names, anything. I was writing down stuff like “Puck Bunnies,” “Slap Shot Legends,” but nothing really clicked, you know?
Then, I thought, why not try some puns? I love a good pun. So, I started playing around with player names. Like, combining them with movie titles or songs. That’s when I hit some gold. I came up with names like “Toews’ Company” and “Getzlaf My Lawn”. Man, I was cracking myself up.
But I didn’t stop there. Oh no, I went deeper. I started thinking about inside jokes that only true hockey fans would get. Stuff like “The Holy Mackinaw” and “Malkin in the Middle”. Those were some of my favorites, for sure. I kept a list of everything, a messy list with words all over, but my favorites were bolded:

- Getzlaf My Lawn
- The Holy Mackinaw
- Malkin in the Middle
After a few hours of this, I had a pretty solid list. I mean, I had some real gems in there. I was feeling good. I decided to run them by a couple of my buddies in the league, you know, to get a second opinion. So I did a simple group text to see what they thought.
They loved them! They were cracking up at some of the names I came up with. We were all just texting back and forth, throwing out more ideas, riffing off each other. It was a blast. They had some good ones too, like “Kane I Come Over” and “Datsyukian Slip.” I had to add those to my list, no doubt.
Finally, after much deliberation, I made my decision. Drumroll, please… I went with “Benn There, Done That.” It’s a play on Jamie Benn’s name, and it’s got that perfect mix of humor and confidence that I was looking for. I felt good knowing I nailed it.
The Final Cut
I logged into the fantasy hockey site, went to my team settings, and typed it in. “Benn There, Done That.” Boom. Done. It felt so good to finally have a killer team name. I knew it was going to set the tone for the whole season. And you know what? It did. We had a great season, lots of laughs, and even though we didn’t win the whole thing, we definitely won the award for the best team name. At least, that’s what everyone said. So yeah, that’s my story of how I came up with the perfect fantasy hockey team name. It was a journey, but it was totally worth it. The key is just to have fun with it, be creative, and don’t be afraid to get a little silly. Oh, and puns. Puns are always a good idea.
