Today, I wanted to try something new and fun, so I decided to give volleyball a shot. I’ve always seen it on TV and it looked like a blast, so I thought, why not?

First things first, I needed to find a place to play. I remembered there’s a park nearby with a volleyball net set up, so I grabbed my sports shoes and headed out. When I got there, the court was empty. Perfect! I took a few minutes to stretch, you know, gotta warm up those muscles.
Got the ball
- I didn’t actually have a volleyball.
- But I did have an old soccer ball.
- Close enough, right?
I started with some basic serving practice. It’s not as easy as it looks! I tried tossing the ball up and hitting it over the net. My first few attempts were… well, let’s just say they didn’t go very far. But I kept at it. I tossed, I swung, I missed, I chased the ball, and I did it all over again. Eventually, I started getting the hang of it. A few of my serves actually made it over the net! That felt great!
Practice time
Next, I tried some “passing.” I’d throw the ball against the wall and try to bump it back to myself. Again, much harder than it looks. My arms were all over the place! But the more I did it, the better I got. I even managed to keep a little rally going with myself for a few seconds. It was pretty cool to see that I could actually hit the ball with some control.
Set it up
Setting was the toughest part. Trying to get the ball to go up in that nice, gentle arc seemed impossible at first. My sets were either too low or too high, too far left or too far right. But I didn’t give up. I kept practicing, trying to get a feel for the right amount of force and the right angle. Slowly but surely, my sets started to look a little more like actual sets. Not perfect, but hey, it was progress!
After a couple of hours, I was pretty tired, but it was a good kind of tired. I had a lot of fun trying something new, and I definitely got a good workout. I might not be ready for the Olympics just yet, but I feel like I learned a lot today. It took some time and a lot of, let’s say, “enthusiastic” attempts, but I actually managed to do some basic volleyball moves. Maybe I’ll grab some friends next time and try to get a real game going.
That was a day I will remember for a long time. I will do it again!
