Okay, so the other day, I was thinking about how long a volleyball game usually lasts. I mean, I play volleyball with my friends every weekend, but we never really keep track of the time. So, I decided to find out.

First, I grabbed my phone and started searching online. I typed in “how long is a volleyball game” and hit enter. Lots of stuff popped up. Some websites said it’s about 60 to 90 minutes, while others mentioned it could go up to 2 or 3 hours for professional matches. It was kind of confusing because there was no single, clear answer.
Then I remembered, we usually play best-of-three sets. So, I dug a little deeper. It turns out each set usually takes around 25 to 30 minutes, depending on how quickly a team gets to 25 points. And you need at least a two-point advantage to win a set.
To get a better idea, I decided to time our games the next weekend. We gathered at the usual spot, set up the net, and started playing. I kept an eye on my watch during each set.
- First set: We finished it in about 27 minutes. It was pretty intense, with both teams scoring closely.
- Second set: This one took a bit longer, around 32 minutes. We had some long rallies.
- Third set: Since we already had a winner after the second set, we didn’t play a full third set, but it was still fun, and we played for about 20 minutes.
So, based on my little experiment, our games usually last around 60 minutes, give or take. Of course, it’s different for everyone. Professional matches can go on for much longer because they play best-of-five sets, and the players are super skilled.
Anyway, it was interesting to finally figure out how long our volleyball games typically are. Now, I can plan my weekends a bit better, knowing how much time we’ll likely spend on the court. Plus, it’s a fun fact I can share with my teammates!
