I saw a question the other day that got me thinking – how many ex-NBA players are Jehovah’s Witnesses? I mean, you don’t hear much about that, right? So, I got curious and decided to dig into it.

First, I hit up Google. You know, just a simple search to see what’s out there. The results were actually pretty interesting. Turns out, there are a few names that kept popping up.
One of the first names I found was Dewayne Dedmon. He’s currently with the Miami Heat. Then, I came across two former Indiana Pacers players, Danny Granger and Darren Collison. Apparently, these guys are all Jehovah’s Witnesses.
I was like, “Okay, that’s cool, three names.” But I wanted to see if there were more. So I kept digging. I read a bunch of articles and forum posts. Some folks were talking about how Darren Collison actually retired for a few years to focus on his faith. That’s some serious dedication, man.
There was also some gossip about a comedian, Amy Schumer, who mentioned dating an NBA player who was a Jehovah’s Witness. People were speculating that it was Danny Granger. I don’t know about all that, but it was interesting to see how this topic popped up in different places.
More digging
- Started with a simple Google search.
- Found articles mentioning Dewayne Dedmon, Danny Granger, and Darren Collison.
- Read about Darren Collison’s retirement for religious reasons.
- Came across some speculation about Danny Granger and Amy Schumer.
- Found a mention of A.C. Green being a devout Christian, but no specific mention of him being a Jehovah’s Witness.
Oh, and I also saw the name A.C. Green mentioned a few times. He’s known for being a really devout Christian, but I couldn’t find anything that specifically said he was a Jehovah’s Witness. So, I’m not counting him in this list.
Honestly, it seems like there aren’t a ton of NBA players who are publicly known as Jehovah’s Witnesses. These three – Dedmon, Granger, and Collison – are the main ones I could find. Maybe there are others who keep it more private, who knows?

Anyway, it was a fun little research project. It’s always interesting to learn about the different beliefs and backgrounds of people, especially athletes we see on TV all the time.
