Okay, so, today I wanted to mess around with some tequila. Specifically, a brand called Lobos 1707. I’d heard some good things, and who doesn’t love a good tequila, right? Plus, I got my hands on a bottle of their Joven, which is supposed to be pretty smooth.

First thing I did was just taste it straight. Wanted to see what I was working with. Yeah, it was smooth, like they said. Not too harsh, which is always a plus when you’re mixing drinks.
Then, I started thinking about what to mix it with. I remembered seeing something about using pineapple and agave syrup, which sounded pretty tasty. I also found a recipe that added sherry to the mix, and another one that was topped with some sparkling cucumber soda. Fancy, right?
So, I decided to kind of combine them. I grabbed my shaker and tossed in some ice. Then I poured in:
- 2 ounces of the Lobos 1707 Joven tequila
- A splash of Amontillado sherry (didn’t measure this one, just a little bit)
- A little bit of agave syrup – I like it sweet, so maybe a bar spoon?
- A good amount of pineapple juice, maybe like 2 ounces?
Then I shook the hell out of it. I mean, really gave it a good shake. Once it was all mixed and cold, I strained it into a tall glass I had. I added some more ice to the glass, because who likes a warm cocktail?
I didn’t have that cucumber soda, so I just topped it off with some regular club soda I had in the fridge. For a garnish, I just sliced up a piece of pineapple and stuck it on the rim.
The Verdict
It was actually pretty damn good! The tequila was definitely the star, but the pineapple and agave gave it this nice sweetness, and the sherry added a little something extra. The club soda made it refreshing. I’d definitely make this again. Next time, maybe I’ll try grilling the pineapple first, like one of those recipes suggested. Or maybe I’ll get my hands on that cucumber soda. It sounds interesting. Overall, though, a solid drink. I’m no bartender, but I think I did alright!
