Okay, so, I’ve been messing around with making a volleyball video game, and let me tell you, it’s been a wild ride. Started this whole thing a few months back, just a little idea that popped into my head. I mean, everyone loves a good game, right? And volleyball seemed like a cool concept. I’ve always been a fan of those old-school games, you know the retro ones and I just wanted to try it out.

First things first, I dusted off my old laptop and started digging into what games were already out there. Found a few classics like “RealSports Volleyball” and “Super Volleyball”, and some indie stuff on * like “Ocean Avenue,” and “Pocket Volleyball”, which gave me a basic idea. I played them for a bit, trying to get a feel for what works and what doesn’t.
Finding Some Games

Then, I started messing around with recording real-life volleyball matches. I grabbed my phone and headed to the local courts. The idea was to capture some real action, you know, to make the game feel legit. I tried to keep the camera steady, set it up behind one side of the net to get the whole court in the shot. Switched sides every set, just like the pros do. It was a bit of a hassle, especially during timeouts and in between sets, but I managed to get some decent footage.
Next up, I started thinking about the rules of the game. I figured I needed to get these right if I wanted the game to be any good. I dug up some info on things like how many points win a set, what a “match” is, and the basic idea of a “play.” Also found out about this thing called “Newcomb ball,” which sounded pretty interesting. It was a lot to take in, but I scribbled it all down. I needed to figure out a way to make this easy for everyone to get into, but still keeping it real, you know?
So, that’s where I’m at now. It’s been a lot of trial and error, a lot of late nights, and a whole lot of coffee. But I’m slowly piecing it all together. Still a long way to go, but I’m pretty stoked about how it’s shaping up. I just wanted to make something fun, something that captures the spirit of volleyball. Let’s see where this goes, right?
