Man, let me tell you about this crazy thing that happened to me last week. I’ve been playing fantasy football for years, and I thought I’d seen it all. But this? This was a whole new level of awful.
So, I’m in this league with some buddies, right? We’ve been doing it for a while, and it’s always a good time. Usually, I do pretty okay. I mean, I’m not winning championships every year, but I hold my own. But last weekend, oh boy, it all went to hell in a handbasket.
It all started on Thursday night. I had a couple of players in that game, and I was feeling pretty good. But then, one of my guys got injured. Not just any injury, mind you, but a season-ender. Right out of the gate, I was down a man. Okay, I thought, I can recover from this. No big deal.
Then came Sunday. I woke up, checked my lineup, and felt that glimmer of hope that all fantasy players feel before the games start. That hope lasted, oh, about five minutes into the 1 PM games. First, my star running back fumbled twice in the first quarter. Then, my quarterback threw two interceptions before halftime. I’m watching the games on TV, and I can just feel my points tanking.
But it gets worse. My wide receiver? The guy I was counting on for big points? He dropped three passes, including one that was a sure touchdown. I swear, I could hear my fantasy score crying for help.
- Thursday night:
- One player got injured, out for the season.
- Sunday early games:
- Star running back fumbled twice.
- Quarterback threw two interceptions.
- Sunday late games:
- Wide receiver dropped three passes, including a touchdown.
- Another player got sent off.
By the time the late games rolled around, I was already in the hole. But I still had a few players left, so I was clinging to the hope that they could salvage my score. Yeah, that didn’t happen. One of my defenders got sent off early in his game. I’m pretty sure he got negative points for that. I didn’t even know that was possible!
Monday night came, and I had one player left. A kicker. I needed a miracle. I needed him to kick like ten field goals to even have a chance of getting a respectable score. Of course, his team barely made it past midfield, and he ended up with a whopping two points. Two! From a kicker!
When it was all said and done, I checked my score. I thought I’d seen some low scores in my time, but this was historic. I’m talking single digits. I don’t even want to say the exact number. It’s too embarrassing. Let’s just say it was the lowest score I’ve ever had. And probably the lowest score anyone in our league has ever had.
How it felt
I was scrolling through the history of the league I’m in, and I was like, “What is the fewest amount of points you have scored in a fantasy football game?” I mean, I know players can get negative points, but it’s not often you see a negative score.
It was brutal, man. I felt like the fantasy football gods were against me. It was like everything that could go wrong, did go wrong. My friends were giving me crap all week, and I couldn’t even blame them. I deserved it. It was that bad.
But you know what? It’s just a game. A silly, frustrating, sometimes infuriating game. But it’s still just a game. I’ve already moved on, and I’m ready for the next week. Hopefully, my luck will turn around. Or at least, I hope I don’t set any more records for the lowest score ever. Once was enough, thank you very much.
