Hey everyone, it’s your boy here, back with another one of my little projects. So, I got this idea stuck in my head to make a volleyball game, right? I’m calling it “volleyball online game jamgg” just for kicks. Let me walk you through the whole messy process.

Getting Started
First off, I knew nothing about making games, let alone a volleyball one. I started by hitting up the internet, looking for anything that could teach a total newbie like me. I stumbled upon some basic drills and tips for beginners, not just for playing volleyball but for understanding the game mechanics. I figured if I could get the hang of the basics, like passing, serving, and setting, maybe I could figure out how to put them into a game.
Digging Deeper
I spent hours watching videos and reading articles. One thing that kept popping up was this “Elevate Yourself” thing. Apparently, it’s pretty good for beginners. I was more interested in the technical stuff, but I did learn a lot about teamwork and communication in volleyball, which got me thinking about how players would interact in my game.
Trial and Error
Now, onto the actual building part. Oh boy, was it a mess. I decided to start with the most basic thing: serving. I tried to code it so you could send the ball over the net from the back line. Sounds simple, right? Wrong. It took me days to get it even remotely working. Then there was passing. I wanted to make it so players could direct the ball to their teammates, like in a real game. I used a simple “Two-Person Pepper” drill as a model. That was another week of my life gone, just trying to get two characters to pass a ball back and forth.
Learning the Rules
One big thing I realized was how important the rules are. I mean, I knew the rules, but I didn’t KNOW them, you know? I had to learn all the zones on the floor, different types of defenses, and even how to “read” where a player might hit the ball. This was crucial for making the game feel real. I started to get into the strategy of it all, thinking about how to turn a defense into an offense with a well-placed bump.
Putting It All Together
After a lot of trial and error, I finally had something that looked like a volleyball game. It wasn’t pretty, and it was full of bugs, but it was mine. I had players moving around, serving, passing, and even spiking. I even tried to add some basic team coordination, though that was way harder than I expected. I learned a ton about game development, but also about volleyball itself. I never thought I’d be so into the strategy behind the sport.
Reflections
This whole project was way more challenging than I thought it would be. I spent countless hours just trying to get the basics down, and I still have a long way to go. But you know what? It was also super rewarding. I learned a lot, not just about making games, but about how much goes into a sport like volleyball. It’s not just about hitting the ball; it’s about strategy, teamwork, and a whole lot of practice. I’m not sure where I’ll go from here, but I’m definitely not giving up. Maybe one day, “volleyball online game jamgg” will be something people can actually play. Until then, it’s back to the drawing board for me.

Keep swinging, folks.
