So I decided to get my hands on the Mikasa MVA200, the official FIVB game volleyball, and let me tell you, it was quite an experience. This ball, with its blue and yellow color scheme, is the same one they used in the 2008 Beijing and 2012 London Olympics, so I was pretty stoked to try it out.

First off, I gotta say, the design is eye-catching. I learned that it is an 8-panel design, which is unique. It’s got these tiny dimples all over, which I guess are there to help with grip and stability. It felt a bit weird at first, but I figured it was all part of the high-tech design.
I started by just tossing the ball around and getting a feel for it. I noticed right away that it’s different from other volleyballs I’ve used. The cover is made of something called “Ultra Soft-Bilt MicFiber”, it felt soft but also really sturdy. I tried a few bumps and sets, and the ball responded well. It felt like I had more control compared to the cheaper balls I’ve used in the past.
Then came the serve test. Now, I’ve heard people talk about how float serves with the MVA200 can be tricky, and boy, were they right! It took some getting used to. The ball seemed to move more unpredictably in the air. After a bunch of tries, I started to get the hang of it, but it definitely required a different technique than what I was used to.
I also tried playing a few games with friends using the MVA200. It was a bit uncomfortable at first, but like most things, we all eventually got used to it. My receives felt more precise, and setting the ball felt smoother. Even though it’s designed for indoor play, we took it outside once, which wasn’t too bad.
- Getting the Ball: I ordered it online, and it arrived in perfect condition.
- First Impressions: The bright blue and yellow design is striking. The dimpled surface felt different but interesting.
- Practicing: Bumping and setting felt great. The ball felt like it gave me more control.
- Serving: Float serves were a challenge at first but became manageable with practice.
- Game Time: Playing with friends was fun. The ball performed well, and everyone adapted to it quickly.
It was a new experience. I understand why it’s the preferred choice for professional and Olympic-level play. This Mikasa MVA200 really changed the way I look at volleyballs.
All in all, using the Mikasa MVA200 was a cool experience. It’s definitely a high-quality ball that lives up to its reputation as the official FIVB game ball. If you’re serious about volleyball, I’d say it’s worth giving it a shot. Just be prepared to adjust your technique a bit, especially for those float serves!
