Hey there, you young’uns! Gather ’round and let me tell you about this thing called Sony BMG Music Entertainment. It’s a mouthful, ain’t it? Sounds like some big city fancy talk to me. But I heard some folks talkin’ ’bout it, so I’ll tell ya what I know.

What’s this Sony BMG Thing?
Well, seems like it was some big company that made music. Not the kinda music we make down at the church social, mind you. This is that radio music, the stuff you hear them kids blastin’ from their cars. They got all sorts of singers and bands. It’s all about that Sony BMG Music Entertainment, the big record company. They make records, you know.
They used to be a big deal, this Sony BMG. They are not around anymore. Heard someone say they called it one of the “Big Four”. That’s like sayin’ they were the biggest dogs in the yard. They had lots of singers and bands under their roof. Not like our roof that needs fixin’. This is a company roof, you get me? A business thing.
Sony and BMG, Two Big Names
So, this Sony BMG, it weren’t just one thing. It was like when Margie’s boy, that big music company, joined up with another. That’s what they called a “joint venture”. Like when two folks get married and share a farm. Except this here’s a music farm. One part was Sony, you know, like them TVs. The other was called BMG, another big music name. They are like two big families of music. This Sony BMG is like their child.
It was half and half, 50-50, like splittin’ a pie right down the middle. Sony owned half, BMG owned the other half. They were partners, but then things changed.
Sony BMG Music Artists
- They got all sorts of artists, those singer folks.
- They had big ones and some you never heard of.
- Lots of different kinds of music too. Some of it is good, some is just noise.
This Sony BMG, they had a whole bunch of singers and bands. Like a whole flock of chickens, each one singin’ a different tune. It’s all under this Sony Music Entertainment name now, I hear. That’s Sony BMG music entertainment. They are still big. They were the second biggest, someone said.
What Happened to Sony BMG?
Well, nothin’ lasts forever, right? Like that old well out back that dried up. This Sony BMG, it changed. Sony, they bought the whole thing out. Like buyin’ the whole pie instead of just half. Now it’s just Sony Music. They are still big, and they still make music. The biggest in the whole world, I reckon.

Seems like that BMG, they went off and did their own thing. Like a bird flyin’ from the nest. They got their own music folks now. They got them Stones, and Beatles and a bunch of other names I can’t rightly recall. Old folks’ memory ain’t what it used to be.
Sony Music Now
So now it’s all Sony. Sony Music Entertainment, that’s what they call it. Big and strong, like that old oak tree down by the creek. They got all them singers and bands, makin’ that music for the young’uns.
- Sony’s the big boss now.
- They got lots of music.
- They’re the biggest one around.
It’s all a bit confusing, all these names and companies. But that’s the gist of it. Sony BMG, it was big, now it’s just Sony Music, and they’re still big. They make that music, and that’s all that really matters to them kids with their loud radios, I reckon. It is all about the music, right?
These big companies, they come and go. They change and shift like the weather. But the music, well, that keeps on playin’. Just like that old fiddle tune my grandpappy used to play. It always stays with ya, somehow. And that’s all about this Sony BMG Music Entertainment.
