So, there it was, “uh volleyball game tonight” just kinda popped into my head earlier. Honestly, I was on the fence. Like, really on the fence. You know how it is after a long day, the couch starts looking real friendly.

I was half-thinking of just calling it a night, maybe catch some reruns. But then my phone buzzed. It was Sarah, asking if I was heading to the UH game. That was the little nudge I guess I needed. Sometimes it just takes someone else mentioning it, right?
Why I Caved and Went
So I thought about it for a second. My brain went through a quick checklist, something like this:
- Boredom: Let’s be real, my other plans involved staring at the ceiling.
- Social: Sarah was going, probably a few others from our usual crew. Better than talking to my cat.
- The Team: They’ve actually been pretty exciting to watch this season, not gonna lie. Some good energy.
- FOMO: Yeah, a little bit. If it was a great game, I’d kick myself for missing it.
Alright, decision made. I wasn’t gonna get all decked out. Just threw on my comfy jeans and a UH t-shirt that’s probably seen better days. Grabbed my keys and wallet, and out the door I went. No fuss, no muss.
The drive over wasn’t too bad, surprisingly. Found a decent parking spot not too far from the arena. I always count that as a small victory before anything even starts. Little wins, you know?
Walking in, you could already feel the buzz. It wasn’t packed to the rafters yet, but there was that nice hum of people excited for the game. I spotted Sarah waving from our usual section, so I went and plopped down.
And man, the game itself? It was pretty good! Our team came out swinging. Some really powerful serves, and a couple of blocks that made the crowd go wild. I’m no expert, but it just looked like they were clicking. The other team put up a good fight, though. Kept it tight, especially in that second set. Had me clenching my fists a few times.

There was this one rally, must have gone on for a solid minute, back and forth, amazing digs from both sides. When we finally scored the point, the place just erupted. I think I yelled so loud my throat felt it the next morning. Totally worth it.
We ended up taking the win! It was a solid performance. Walking out, everyone was in a good mood, high-fiving, still chatting about their favorite plays. That’s the stuff I like. Good vibes all around.
So yeah, “uh volleyball game tonight” turned into a pretty decent evening out. Glad I peeled myself off the couch. Sometimes those last-minute, “eh, why not?” decisions turn out to be the best ones. Definitely better than watching paint dry, that’s for sure.
