I’ve been meaning to get back into volleyball for a while now, and I finally decided to take the plunge. A buddy of mine mentioned this Wilson AVP OPTX Game Volleyball, and it sounded pretty sweet, so I figured, why not? I went ahead and ordered one online.

When it arrived, the first thing I did was, obviously, pump it up. Felt good in my hands, you know? Nice grip, not too heavy, not too light. Just that perfect kind of feel you want in a volleyball.
- Took it to the park with my friend the next day. We just started with some casual bumping, setting, getting a feel for the ball.
- It’s designed for beach volleyball, which is played between two teams on a sand court.
- We aren’t pros or anything, so we didn’t do an official match with a coin toss. We decided who serve first.
- And I have to say, that OPTX design? It really does make a difference. It’s super easy to track the ball, even when the sun’s right in your eyes.
We played for a couple of hours, just having fun, messing around. I could definitely tell the difference between this ball and some of the cheaper ones I’ve used in the past. It just responds better, flies truer, you know? Like, when you hit it, it actually goes where you want it to go.
Worth it?
So far, yeah, definitely. This Wilson AVP OPTX seems like it’s gonna be a solid choice for our casual games. But there is another option, the Molten BV5000, it’s very similar quality to the OPTX, and they have almost the same price. I haven’t tried it out, so I cannot make comments. I’m no expert, but for a regular dude just wanting to play some volleyball with his buddies, it seems pretty great. I’ll keep you guys updated if anything changes, but as of now, two thumbs up from me!
